How must a load overhanging from the front of a vehicle be marked?
Why: A forward overhang must be clearly visible in low light. A white lamp shows the position and a white reflective element ensures it remains visible when illuminated by other vehicles.
Daytime: No special front marking is required in normal daylight.
At night/low visibility: Use both a white light and a white reflector at the front so approaching drivers can detect the overhang early.
Wrong – “white light only”: Lacks the passive reflection needed if the lamp fails or when seen from angles where the light is less obvious.
Wrong – “white light day and night”: A front light is not required during the day; it is only needed in darkness or reduced visibility.
Tip: Rear overhangs are marked in red (red light and red reflector) under the same low-visibility conditions.
