Is the car overtaking the cycle correctly?

View explanation

Yes. The car is overtaking correctly because it leaves at least 1.5 metres to the cycle and uses (partly or fully) the opposite lane when safe, this is the proper manoeuvre for passing cyclists.

  • Preconditions: signal, check no oncoming traffic, and ensure clear visibility.
  • Speed: moderate speed and smooth lateral separation; return only when it’s safe.
  • Why others are wrong: using the opposite lane isn’t an error, it’s required when safe; and leaving more than 1.5 m is allowed, not a reason to fail.
