May we double park?
Double parking is not allowed because it obstructs traffic, narrows the lane, and creates visibility hazards for drivers, cyclists, and pedestrians.
Even brief stops can block buses, emergency vehicles, and access to parked cars, so the practice is prohibited.
- Hazard lights don’t legalise it: signalling an irregular stop does not make it permitted.
- “No space nearby” isn’t a justification: you must continue to a legal spot or use a car park.
- Safety & flow: double parking forces risky lane changes and increases collision risk.
- Good practice: use designated bays, loading zones, or stop off the carriageway where allowed.
